MY SPACE, MY RULES

Tho the rest of you still have a lot of summer moments left, for me, it is coming to an end. By the end of the week I will be already strolling around Milan again (and can't wait for it actually, my peeps will already be there awaiting me). The only part about moving I do complain about is packing...Boxes, papers, what to throw, what to bring, what fits in that wonderful VW of ours and what simply needs to wait for its turn always somehow manages to drive me crazy...

But in the end, it is all worth it when I reach that pretty little apartment of mine in the dorm, cuz that is when the magic happens, when the decorating begins.

For me a cozy room is everything. The right place for studying, the getaway for those afternoon naps and the one place that has to feel like home (who wants to feel like living from a suitcase in an understated hotel for 9 months, I most certainly don't)

For this year I decided to switch it up a little and am giving the room a completely new, yet true to myself vibe. How do I plan on doing that? Well. let me guide you through my rules for a both functional and pretty small space.

1) LIGHTING HAS TO BE ON POINT...
What I would definitely suggest is opting for a good desk lamp. In my case, I have also invested in a smaller reading lamp that casually hangs from the wooden shelves above the bed. In those crucial late night studying sessions, this will be really helpful since our eyes tend to hurt and get tired more easily if the lighting is too soft.

(this is how I like to keep my pencils too, metallic bins are a really cheap, yet stylish thing )

(don't freak out immediately, these lamps can be found at Ikea for affordable prices)

Another way to add something special to your room would also be maybe adding hanging lights (like the ones in the picture below) or you could also decide for my option: LED lights attached on the wall right along the top shelf, in this way I have gotten a softer light for just hanging out in my room with friends or watching movies. They are easy to install and not that expensive (they can be found in every do-it-yourself store near you).

(the lights around the window make the space feel warmer)

2) THE BED SHEETS (AND PILOWS) YOU DESERVE!
I don't know about your dorm, but in mine, we get those awful white (almost hospital LIKE) bedspreads and sheets. Well, skip out on them and make your space a bit more you instead! Bed sheets are an easy investment that can instantly light up your room, make it more intriguing and colorful (next to the white walls in my room they sure come in handy as a mood lifter). Also, another way I like to do it is by adding colorful pillows, last year I mixed geometric patterns with shades of yellow and silver which gave my room that little something-something.

(mixing and matching doesn't just mean chaos and ugly, this is one good example of it)

(if you want to keep it simple, yet effective, try combining bed sheets in a neutral color with really pigmented, color rich pillows)

(geometric prints are my personal favs)

(pillows make the space seem cozier)

3) PLANTS FOR THE OXYGEN

When studying, fresh air is what you need, and what better way to spread positive vibes and fresh air than plants! Tho I'd say not all of us have that much space, we can all still fit in one of these uber cute mini plants that come in a vase. In my apartment I have invested in a small rose, yep you heard me right, it is of course pink and just makes my space feel even more like home.

I hope these tips and tricks can be helpful for you when you start thinking about making that sterile dorm room your own.

Aleks

MY BEAUTY FAVORITES

Taking care of oneself is something we so often forget about, I know from myself I often just do the basics (the bare essentials that are XD).

Washing the skin, blow drying my hair, a bit of SPF and I'm already out the door. (I do also manage to put on some clothes)

My beauty routine usually takes up as much as 15 minutes, 4 effective, yet simple steps and till this day my biggest mystery is still how that one girl from my class used to wake up at 6 in the morning and work on her makeup till it was almost impossible to arrive at school in time...intriguing isn't it.

 1) STAYING CLEAN
That should also be your first step...I try to avoid aggressive products (they do more harm than they have positive effects, and often cost more than they are worth) and therefore always go for easy applicable, exfoliating masks. The two I use most would be the L'oreal Paris Pure Clay Exfo mask and the Mr. Black illuminizing peel-off black mask (the secret weapon for clear pores in the nose area). Both of them are easy to use and rinse off later.

2) THE SPF DOUBLE WIN
We are surrounded by people that are constantly doing their make up, and there's nothing wrong with that, but in my case, I go the lighter road. This foundation I discovered in that wonderful Sephora in Milan and the sales lady was right, it really fits. Lancome's air de teint has turned into something I always go back to (the bottle additionally lasts long, and although it costs 30 euros, it is definitely worth it). It blends really well and doesn't smudge like some of the others. My advice, apply it just with tips of your fingers, in order to really make it almost invisible, yet really covering. (this foundation helps me look fresh, although I studied throughout the nights)

3) SILKY LIPS
At one period I was obsessed with bright lipsticks (I love them to this day). In the recent time, they have found their place to shine: during those wild nights in Milan. During the day, however, I like to keep it classy, but colorful and Clinique got me covered: their Chubby stick (mine is in the shade 14 curvy candy) is just the perfect amount of moisturizer, creaminess, and pink. (hint incoming: they are available at Sephora)

4) HOW A SCORPIO SMELLS
Subtle, seductive and turns even the heads of females, yes my dears we are talking about that golden (pun intended) Bvlgari fragrance. When I first tried on Goldea it blew me off my feet and soon it replaced that Black Opium fragrance I was known by. It is a vibrant scent, fruity, but not too much, on the skin it feels refreshing and honestly, it amazed me for how long the scent lasts (#alldaypeople). Hint: Spray a bit over your hair, the wonderful scent will follow you around wherever you are headed to.

MY VACATION DIARY: GREECE

(Almost unbelievable, but this photo was taken on the city beach )

(not really worried tho...)

(First bikini spotting since a long while)

(Achinos beach club side note: Going for the lounge area in the upper part saves you 6 euros that you would have to pay for the sun stools right next to the water, also you get a big bottle of water for free)

(Kurosauros beach bar)

(Elephant beach bar)

Long did we think where to spend our free time, isn't that right? Well, for me it always was water, sun and salty skin. Greece, therefore, fulfilled all the criteria. 10 days of pure perfection, a lot of Greek salads and water bottles later I was finally ready to admit to myself: You deserve it!!!

I spent most of my days in Pefkochori (apparently a gathering point for Serbians), the public, city beach was a disappointment (and that my friends usually is the general rule), but the beach clubs turned into my second home. If you are traveling by car you should definitely drive around and take a look at the other villages nearby. Chaniotis, turned out to be the beach club spot, while 9 km after Pefkohori you will be pleased to find Xenia, a bay, crowded, yet you don't feel the crowd, and what's more: NO INTERNET! (it was about time to disconnect)

For the restless ones, yes, you right there, you with the same shopping urge I experience so often you'll be pleased to find out: Thessaloniki is not that far away! You can go either by car or with one of those organized bus tours (they are rolling down the streets almost every hour). There I would recommend either shopping on the main street of Thessaloniki or just going to the place that seriously has it all: Mediterranean Cosmos.

I was writing, coming up with ideas and also taking matters into my own hands (internship alert people). Photography also started to interest me again...those are the true blessings of vacation, the reset effect. And then it is you realize that it's already passed, you find yourself at home, but this time doing your things with such a big smile on your face (most people don't even recognize me anymore XD)

This would be all, for now, my dears, have fun enjoy the rest of summer and laugh a lot.

XO
Aleks

BEING ALEKS...

The days are hot, beach buns are out and we will finally witness me being stress free isn't that wonderful? Vacations, they can either make you or break you (often just depending on the people we're travelling with), in my case, this one is simply making me complete. Which led us to another confession (which was long due).

Being Aleks, it doesn't just mean craziness, randomness and a lot of passion, it also means figuring out how you feel about yourself, and it's a thing I usually don't talk much about. In the beginning I ate and felt like that one retarded cousin they portray so often in those Hollywood blockbusters. I was laughed at,, didn't feel pretty and bully attempts didn't take long to appear, but I always kept quiet about it, until now, now I know that when they say the relationship to yourself sets the tone  for the other ones it really is so... it is time to add the value you deserve. (while skipping those many steps I had to take)

1) Having an opinion is one thing no one can take away from you.

At this age we're all just floating around, and it should be like that, we should experiment, explore, travel and learn, learn the most out of what we see, feel and desire..just that doesn't mean always being surrounded by people, it means learning how to be alone too. And I was often alone, I felt like a misfit most of the time during one period. And I didn't know why some people simply didn't even give me a chance, but knowing what I know now, I can actually say thank you for providing the reasons I became who I am today.

            2) Listen to what others have to say, but value your gut the most.

It relates to those magical Buddhist experiences we often get to read about, the knew philosophy of hipsters, who have silently (well, not anymore silently) occupied us, the forming of those new healthy lifestyle and mind consciousness trends (that were there long before the "new" philosophers nowadays started talking about them). You shouldn't be intimidated, nor drastically change the way you behave, dress or think, you should start thinking with your own mind, that is the key message we all have in common. Ask yourself what troubles the people troubling you could be experiencing now and be patient, being alone can leave you devastated, but in the big picture you will understand your needs better. (crying isn't anything to be ashamed of too)

3) Solitude doesn't limit, it frees time from the not so important things.

And love...love for your family, friends and that one guy that's gonna make you fall for him head over heels. To give you must learn to love yourself first, otherwise from personal experiences it can never be that 50:50 balance. I know, this must sound hard to some of you, but being alone instead of being with someone who doesn't know how to value and treat you is a far less painful option. Who knows, maybe it was wrong timing, the wrong person or wrong reasons, but it will sure lead you to a new insight in this poker game called life. Just remember, that you should first work on yourself, and all god things will follow.

4) Love is a two way street, it doesn't function when only one is pushing.

XO,
Aleks
